@2{MAGIC PAINT BOX (F1 GOLD) V1.2
@3
}Review By Andy Gibson
@4
Malcolm Lavery earns himself an F1 Licenceware Gold Release with a
great product. Magic Paint Box.
@1
I received a full copy, complete with A5 Printed Manual direct from
Steve Bye just before the last issue of Az was released and I must
say that I am mighty impressed with the package.
@5
So what can MPB offer the end user ? Well, for starters it has a
total of no less than 84 painting functions! Each funtion is
accompanied by great sound fx or the Amiga's built in speech.
@3
If that doesn't take your fancy, then you can chhose from 9 music
modules instead. Who says creating art needs concentration and
complete silence ?
@4
In fact, no concentration is required at all with MPB as creating
pictures is just so easy .... and more importantly .... fun.
@6
There are plenty of predrawn background pics, clip art stamps and
even multi-coloured rainbows to choose from too.
@4 Kids will love creating pictures with MPB as no art knowledge is
required at all. Building up a picture can be done in around five
minutes flat.
@1
Plenty of tools along the bottom of the screen can be selected to
draw grass, trees, moon and suns just to name a few.
@5
Of course there are all the usual tools that you would expect such
as circle, box etc. also.
@3
When your picture is complete you can either save it to disk in Iff
format (standard for most art packages) so your work can then be
altered in another package if need be! (Although MPB should do for
kids - but maybe Ad-Pro fans will like do special fx also)
@4
But hey, wait! MPB has it's own built in special fx. You can flip
the picture in various directions, shrink the picture, turn the
picture into small tiles, put a frame around the picture, pixelize
it, crop it etc.
@6
Another great thing about MPB is the ability to print your pictures
out. A couple of printer drivers come supplied, but MPB can use the
WB Prefs instead if need be. Which should tell you that MPB can be
installed onto your hard disk also.
@4 It's hard to think that kids could get bored with this program,
especially with all the features.
@1
However, Mal has thought of everything as he has also included a
neat keyboard which plays silly sound samples. Kids will love it !
(I had fun messing around with it too :^)
@5
Mal states that since there are 84 painting tools that the user may
take some time to get used to them all. To be perfectly honest, a
quick browse at the manual is all that is required. After all,
Mal's gfx on the tool box clearly state what each tool does.
@3
eg. You want to rub out part of your picture, click on the button
with a nicely drawn eraser. Couldn't be simpler could it?
@4
I would love to type up a whole list of all the functions available
and explain in full what each one does, but the supplied manual
does it all for you, so why not order a copy today?
@6
I have used various PD/Licenceware paint programs and I have to say
that MPB is by far the leader so far. It beats me why Mal didn't
try and release it as a commercial title ! Yes, it's that good @1:-)
You could do a lot worse than buying this package for your kids.
@4 MPB is available directly from F1 Licenceware at 31 Wellington Rd,
Exeter Devon, EX2 9DU.
@1
Package includes MPB disk, full A5 Printed manual and plastic
sleeve to keep it all in. All for only £6.99 + 50 postage. For
each copy sold, Malcolm will receive a 25% royalty payment.
@5
A package like this for under £10 is a real bargain as MPB is worth
a whole lot more. In fact, I think Escom should supply MPB with
any future Amiga packs aimed at kids. Now wouldn't that be great
for both Mal and F1 Licenceware?
@3
OK Ratings Time:
@6
MAGIC PAINT BOX Rated at #696% @6in Amiga Shopper November 1995
@1
F1 Licenceware's highest rated program so far, surely that says
something ....... Go on, make Mal's day, order your copy today ....
@4
OR .... why not try and win yourself a free copy ? See the
competition section in this very issue of Amoszine.
@5
Now where did I put my ear ...... ? (think about it !!! @1:( @5!!!)
